E-85 Conversion
The State of Michigan Energy Office will be accepting applications for funding to convert existing fuel tanks/pumps for E85 ethanol use. Public fueling stations and public fleet fueling locations are eligible to apply. This is an excellent opportunity for fueling stations to expand their customer base and for public fleets to meet EPAct requirements. Alternative Energy R&D
The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division (NSWCCD), has issued a Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) for Cooperative Science, Technology, Research and Development Opportunities in Naval and Marine Machinery. NSWCCD is interested in projects which offer potential for advancement and improvements of Naval machinery operations and the
scientific knowledge necessary to create such advancements. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: R&D of advanced power generation and transmission systems such as engines, fuel cells, batteries, and alternative energy and power sources; the development,
implementation and demonstration of future electric power; energy storage devices, and electric motors. This BAA will remain open until 1/13/09.

On-Board Vehicular Hydrogen Storage
The U.S. Department of Energy requests proposals for Research and Development of On-Board Vehicular Hydrogen Storage. Through this initiative, DOE seeks to support the widespread commercialization of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies through R&D of new materials and
concepts in the following areas: Advanced metal hydrides, chemical hydrogen storage materials, carbon-based materials, high surface area sorbents including bridged catalyst (spillover) materials and conducting polymers, and other novel approaches. $6 million expected to be available, up to 6 awards anticipated. Pre-applications are required and are due 2/28/08, final proposals due 4/18/08.

Advanced Vehicle Technologies
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announces its intent to seek flexible engineering support related to the design, development, fabrication, and evaluation of bent-axis hydraulic pump motors and hydraulic hybrid vehicle systems. Advanced unique engine configurations and components, as part of a complete hydraulic hybrid powertrain, may also be designed and fabricated under this contract. EPA anticipates posting the solicitation (at http://www.epa.gov/oam/cinn_cmd) in late February 2008.

Clean Indoor Air in Developing Countries
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency requests proposals for the Partnership for Clean Indoor Air Outreach, Communication and Education. This program supports outreach, communication and education activities aimed at reducing exposure to indoor air
pollution from household energy use in developing countries. Priority areas of interest include: Incorporating social and cultural practices to promote adoption of new technology; developing local sustainable markets for improved technology; improving the design and performance
of technologies; and monitoring indoor air pollution and socio-economic impacts of the intervention. Approximately three billion people worldwide burn traditional biomass (wood, dung, crop residues) and coal indoors for home cooking and heating. According to the World

Job Training for the Energy Industry
The U.S. Department of Labor requests proposals for High-Growth Job Training Initiative Grants for the Energy Industry and Construction and Skilled Trades in the Energy Industry. Through this initiative, DOL seeks the implementation and replication of high-impact, industry-driven training solutions that address identified workforce challenges in the energy industry or in the construction and skilled trade occupations that support the energy industry. Each solution must take place in the context of a regional talent development strategy designed to contribute to a strong regional economy. $10 million expected to be available, individual awards NTE $1 million each.
